Jujutsu Kaisen: The 20 Strongest Characters, Ranked (Part 2: #10–1)

This is our jujutsu kaisen strongest characters ranked 10-1 breakdown, closing out the countdown with the two names every fan already expected to see at the top.

Welcome back. Part 1 covered #20 through #11, the characters whose strength is easiest to underrate on a first read. This half of the list is the opposite problem: these are characters nobody underrates, but agreeing on the exact order between them is where things get contentious. Within the first arc, Jujutsu Kaisen already puts its two strongest characters, Gojo and Sukuna, in the same room, letting readers see a fraction of what each of them can do before the plot has barely gotten started. Gojo is written to be so overwhelmingly strong that the story eventually has to find a way to take him out of the equation just to let anyone else grow, and a major turning point in the back half of the series revolves around exactly that.

Beyond the two of them, part of what makes Jujutsu Kaisen worth ranking at all is how distinct every character feels. Nearly everyone in this cast gets a technique, a fighting style, and a personality that stands on its own, which is rarer than it sounds in a series with this many named sorcerers and curses.

That said, actually ranking this cast is genuinely difficult, and it’s worth being upfront about why. Some characters are strong because of pure sorcery output, some because of raw physical ability, and some almost entirely because they’ve unlocked a Domain Expansion, which changes the math of a fight regardless of how strong the user is outside of it. Comparing a technician like Kashimo to a brute-force fighter like Toji, or a Domain Expansion user like Yuta to someone who’s never needed one, means there’s no single clean axis to rank everyone on. Even accounting for all of that, though, Gojo and Sukuna were always going to end up at the top of this list.

A quick note on scope: this ranking sticks to the main Jujutsu Kaisen series, leaving out the Modulo sequel’s mostly new cast, since they haven’t had enough demonstrated combat yet to fairly compare.

#10 — Mahito

Mahito is proof that a technique doesn’t need to be flashy to be terrifying, it just needs to break the rules in a way nobody can plan around. Idle Transfiguration lets him reshape souls directly, which means every fight against him is really a fight against the possibility that he simply redefines what your body is mid-swing. He’s also one of the only curses in the series who genuinely enjoys the cruelty of what he does, which makes his fights land differently than the more mission-driven villains around him. By the time he’s fused his own soul into something closer to indestructible, he’s outgrown “menace” and become a legitimate threat to sorcerers well above his original grade.

#9 — Maki Zenin

Maki spends most of the series being underestimated for having zero cursed energy, and the payoff for that setup is one of the most satisfying character arcs in the whole series. Once she inherits the Zenin family’s cursed tools, her total lack of cursed energy stops being a weakness and becomes an asset, since none of the tools’ curses can touch her. By the finale she’s cutting through opponents who would have flattened her a hundred chapters earlier. She’s proof that Akutami’s power scaling isn’t just about raw output, it’s about how well a character’s specific gift lines up against the right opponent.

#8 — Toji Fushiguro (Jinsaku Fushiguro)

Toji is the character every fan brings up when they want to prove that cursed energy isn’t the whole story. Born without any of his own, he built himself into a threat that could put Gojo on the back foot using nothing but physical skill, tools, and the Heavenly Restriction that made his body absurdly fast and strong. His reappearance late in the series, resurrected and pointed at Sukuna, is one of the best “what if” fights the series ever delivers. He loses in the end, but he makes the King of Curses work for it, which says more than a win would have.

#7 — Yuji Itadori

Itadori’s rise from a kid who swallowed a cursed finger on a whim to the one standing across from Sukuna at the very end is the backbone of the entire series. His growth isn’t just physical, his handling of Sukuna’s vessel, his mastery of Black Flash, and his late-series technique all stack up into a fighter who genuinely earns his spot near the top. The finale is a team effort rather than a solo win, and that’s worth being honest about, but the amount of ground Itadori covers over 271 chapters is unmatched by anyone else on this list.

#6 — Yuki Tsukumo

Tsukumo doesn’t get nearly enough attention outside of hardcore fan circles, which is a shame given what her technique actually does. Star Rage turns her body into something closer to a weapon platform than a person, letting her generate and control black holes with a level of destructive range that few other techniques in the series can match. She spends most of the story off-page, which hurts her visibility, but every appearance she does make reinforces that she belongs in this tier.

#5 — Yuta Okkotsu

Yuta’s power was terrifying from his very first appearance, a special grade sorcerer’s worth of cursed energy stuffed into a first-year who didn’t know how to use it yet. By the time he returns from studying abroad, he’s arguably surpassed his own teacher in raw output, and his fusion with Rika gives him access to some of the most overwhelming offense in the series. The tragedy of his backstory always threatened to overshadow his combat ability, but by the end of the story it’s clear he’s one of the two or three strongest sorcerers alive.

#4 — Mahoraga

Mahoraga isn’t a sorcerer, it’s a Shikigami, but leaving it off a strength ranking would be dishonest. Its entire gimmick, adapting to any technique it’s hit with until it becomes immune, makes it one of the single hardest things to actually defeat in the series rather than just powerful in a straightforward sense. The catch is that Mahoraga is only as dangerous as the person controlling it, which is why this ranking treats the Shikigami’s raw combat potential separately from Megumi’s own skill as a sorcerer. Megumi himself doesn’t crack the Top 20 on his own merits, at least not yet, but the tool he commands absolutely does.

#3 — Kenjaku

Kenjaku’s strength doesn’t come from a single overwhelming technique, it comes from over a thousand years of accumulated knowledge, stolen techniques, and patience. That’s arguably scarier than brute force, since Kenjaku enters every fight already knowing more about the opponent’s ability than the opponent does. Its role as the architect behind most of the series’ worst events, not just a participant in them, is part of why so many ranking discussions push it above characters with flashier individual techniques.

#2 — Satoru Gojo

For most of the series’ run, Gojo was simply the answer to “who’s the strongest,” full stop. The story is explicit that his birth alone shifted the balance of power across the entire jujutsu world, since no sorcerer in centuries had been born with both the Six Eyes and Limitless. Limitless and the Six Eyes make him close to unhittable, and Domain Expansion: Unlimited Void turns any fight into an execution before it even starts. Reader consensus placed him at #1 for years, and it’s easy to see why. The finale complicates that a little, which is exactly why he lands at #2 on this particular list rather than #1, but nothing about his loss retroactively makes him less terrifying in every fight leading up to it.

#1 — Sukuna

Sukuna spends the entire series as the ceiling every other character is measured against, and the finale confirms it. Twenty Shadows, Malevolent Shrine, and a body that keeps getting stronger the more of itself Sukuna reclaims all add up to a character who wins even when the story stacks the entire cast against him at once. What pushes him to #1 over Gojo isn’t just the outcome of their fight, it’s that Sukuna spent a thousand years as a legend for a reason, and every chapter of this series builds the case for why.
